You’ve given up meat, wheat, sugar and smoking at the same time as looking for a new job, in between training for that triathlon, whilst cooking a macrobiotic meal in a kundalini yoga pose. If you’re still hanging on, then I salute you. For 90% of the population, ‘dry Jan’ is well and truly over. So why do so many good intentions fail?
It’s important to set goals and invest in your own development. But are your goals truly right for you? One of the things we are all too aware of here at Bolt, is that one size doesn’t fit all. Good intentions fail when they’re knee-jerk reactions to the constant media onslaught that we’re faced with, especially at this time of year.
“Think for yourself. Trust your intuition. Another’s mind isn’t walking your journey, you are.” Scottie Waves.
For Lou and I, January is a month of personal growth. Lou has just got back from her retreat in Portugal, creating space to reflect and nourish her body through juicing. I’m on The One Retreat with Shaa Wasmund, which is more business orientated. Both are very different, but we’ll come back together to share our learning and how we can apply it to the business. As well as separate retreats, we will be completing the Heart Math course too. Our insatiable appetite for learning both independently and as a business partnership means we’ll always have something new to offer our clients.
So now you know what we’re up to, what about your journey?
We’ve put together, in one handy blog, some helpful resources that we really like. Hopefully they’ll give you some direction towards a path that’s right for you.
One amazing article that struck a chord with me was about being a SMART ASS. Those of you in the corporate world will be all too familiar with SMART objectives. We tend to steer clear of SMART objectives here at Bolt, as the ‘Realistic’ objective does have a tendency to crush dreams. At Bolt, we believe in following them. However, if you put some ASS into it, as with all things, you’ll be much more likely to succeed.
Accountability. We all know how much easier it is to get your ass (no pun intended) to that boxfit class when a mate is relying on you. Going alone takes much more willpower. This is why coaching works. At Bolt from the You, we add value because we prioritise accountability. We put systems and Structures in place that help the individual, team or company become accountable for their own development.
Small Steps. If you want to get fit, eat well, change careers, quit smoking, quit drinking and meditate 5 times a day, absolutely go for it! But, just take it one step at a time. You aren’t superman/woman. Follow your dreams by all means, but just make sure that the steps you’re committing to are realistic. If they aren’t, you’ll become overwhelmed by the mammoth task at hand and are much more likely to fail. Be realistic, be consistent, be accountable and practice daily. You’ll be amazed by how much you can actually achieve.
If you’re more of a creative type, then a vision board could be for you. Sit down with a pile of magazines, grab the scissors and glue and open your mind to your goals. Make a collage using striking images and profound words that describe what you would like to see manifest in your life. Then put it somewhere you look every day. The image will bury itself in your subconscious so that you will become aware of opportunities as they arise. Check out The Power of Manifesting your life through a Vision Board workshop where our friend and mentor Shomit Mitter will be speaking.
Finally I wanted to let you know how much clarity and personal insight Lou and I have gained through journaling. We can’t recommend it highly enough. When you write down what it is that you want, you can see your thought processes. Gaps are revealed and action points become clear. Our approaches to it are completely different. Lou grabs a pen and paper and just writes! I like to use The Daily Greatness Journal. It has some great prompts and thought provoking questions and gives me a little more direction. Play around with both techniques, find out what works for you and go for it.
Whatever it is that you want to see manifest in 2017 and beyond, tell someone else of your intentions and ask them to hold you accountable. Find a medium that will help you put into place the steps that you need to move towards it.
Intention + Action = Manifestation.
It’s YOUR journey. And it starts right now…
P.S. Keep your eyes peeled for our brand new online group, Bolt Moments. Here you’ll be able to find some amazing resources, learn, share and grow amongst friends.
